View Date:2025-01-11 13:12:20
The cast and crew of Everything Everywhere All at Once are the true winners of the 2023 Oscars.
During the biggest award show of the year, The Academy announced Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert's film was the Best Picture of the Year. (For all the Oscar star sightings, click here.)
"I never thought I would get to say this, so I say it with one voice with all these people: thank you to The Academy," producer Jonathan Wang told the Dolby Theatre audience. "A24, thank you so much. You saw our weirdness and supported us for a year theatrically, that's incredible, thank you."
In addition to thanking his wife for her support, Wang paid tribute to his late immigrant father who taught him a lesson about treating people with respect.
"No person is more important than profits," he said. "And no one is more important than anyone else. And these weirdos right here supported me in doing that."
All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness and Women Talking were also nominated for Best Picture.
But during the Oscars, Everything Everywhere All at Once picked up seven awards including Michelle Yeoh for Actress in a Leading Role, Ke Huy Quan for Actor in a Supporting Role and Jamie Lee Curtis with Actress in a Supporting Role.
After Harrison Ford presented the cast with the Best Picture award, Kwan expressed hope that more films like this could be made in the future.
"One of the best things we can do for each other is shelter each other from the chaos of this crazy world we live in," he said. "Thank you to the storytellers here who did that for me."
